SUA Gameroom Reservations FAQ
Who should I contact to make a reservation?
Reservation Manager Stephanie Broom at (612) 625-7707 or gamerooms@umn.edu. The easiest way to request a reservation is through our reservation request.
What information do I need to leave for a voicemail reservation inquiry?
- Your name
- Your phone number(s)
- Type of event
- Preferred date(s) and times
- Preferred location: the Gopher Spot or Goldy's Gameroom
Who is eligible to reserve the Gamerooms?
Anyone. Discounts for U of MN students and student groups do apply.
Do you allow children?
Yes. We have 4 bumper lanes at the Gopher Spot and 5 bumper lanes at Goldy's Gameroom, bowling balls down to 8 lbs. and shoes starting at kid's size 1. Very small children below size 1 may bowl in their socks.
Do I need to make a reservation?
Not necessarily. Reservation prices start at $40, so with very small groups a reservation may not be the best option unless you are determined to guarantee your space. Walk-in guests may encounter a wait - especially on busy Friday and Saturday nights - but you can always call the front desk at (612)624-8722 (CMU) or (612)625-5246 (SPSC) and see how busy the gameroom is before you come.
Does it cost more to make a reservation?
No. In fact it will usually be less expensive than our regular rates.
What are the times for which I can make a reservation?
Any time that lanes and/or tables are available. Leagues, bowling classes, tournaments and other events occur regularly, and reservations are generally not available during those times. You can check the Gopher Spot's schedule or the Goldy's Gameroom schedule online or contact us for more information.
Can I make a reservation that extends past closing time - or for a day you are not open?
It may be possible, depending on building hours, available staffing, and other concerns. This needs to be approved by the manager, and significant extra charges will apply.
Do you allow smoking?
No. The gamerooms, like all U of MN facilities, are completely smoke-free.
Do you serve alcohol?
No. But we do allow qualified reservations to apply for an alcohol event permit. This is done through the President's Office in Morill Hall or online. We require a copy immediately upon approval. Download Application (PDF).
What is the maximum number of people the gamerooms can accommodate?
The Gopher Spot has a capacity of 200 people and Goldy's Gameroom has a capacity of 400 people.
What if our group is bigger than that?
You should contact the Coffman Reservation Department at (612) 624-9954 or the St. Paul Student Center Reservation Department at (612) 624-8145 and see which other spaces in the building are available for supplementary activities.
How many people can play at a time?
We recommend about 4 people per lane for bowling, and we don't allow more than 6 people per lane. For pool tables, we recommend 2 to 4 people per table, and we don't allow more than 6 people.
What arcade games do you offer?
We offer the following arcade games
- Air hockey
- Pinball
- Video Games
- Dance Dance Revolution (Goldy's Gameroom)
- Darts (Goldy's Gameroom)
What are our group's options for food and beverage?
The gamerooms offer a wide variety of food and beverage options for you to choose from, including appetizers, pizzas, and birthday cakes (birthday cake requires at least 10 days advanced notice).
Can our group bring in our own food and/or beverages or can we have food and beverages catered?
We generally do not allow outside food or beverages. Please contact the reservation manager at (612) 625-7707 or gamerooms@umn.edu for more information.
Do you require a deposit for reservations?
We require a 50% deposit 2 weeks in advance of all reservations. Please contact the reservation manager at (612) 625-7707 or gamerooms@umn.edu for details.
When is the payment due?
Payment (minus deposit) is due at the start of the event.
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept cash, check (payable to U of MN), credit card, or University budget number (CUFS#).
What are your cancellation or reservation amendment policies?
You can add lanes or tables on short notice if they are available. You may not reduce or cancel your reservation with less than 2 weeks notice without penalty and/or forfeiture of deposit.
