2/25/2005Making Music - Dave King

Band: Dave King

Dave King came and delivered last Wednesday night. He and JG Everest had a wide-ranging conversation that went well past our original expectations. We heard all about Dave's creative process, his musical references and influences, and his relationships with a wide range of collaborators (from Mike Lewis to Dead Prez.) We're going to try to post some audio from the evening here, so check back every once in a while if you didn't get to catch it the first time.

Airplanes, cameras, and birds floated and intermingled through the room. Alex Lubet, Doug Geers and Ying Zhang collaborated on a long, ambient droning piece. Ying...

2/25/2005The Best Bits: 7Days, Badger Hotel, Ari Herstand, Greg Froehle, and Ty Stafford

For this Bits Variety Show, we brought back the outstanding performers from the Fall 2004 semester. 7Days made an appearance, too, but I didn't get any photos of their set. The other people that appeared were: Badger Hotel, Ari Herstand, Greg Froehle, and Ty Stafford. Ty did a great version of "Like a Virgin". It seemed to be the night of the looping device, as three of our performers had them and used them to create layers and layers that they sang and played trumpet over.
