OK, here's the class that lets you express your inner rock star. It's called Rock Performance / Performing Rock: "Keepin' It Real" in Rock Culture. It's taught by a guy names Wade Hollinshaus. Here's what I imagine the syllabus looks like: Chapter One - Rock poses: Iggy Pop, Ramones, Motorhead, Black Flag, U2, Michael Jackson, Nirvana Chapter Two - Rock expressions: Sneer, Yell, Faint, Pout, Jello Biafra Chapter Three - Rock actions: Windmill, Oral Bat Decapitation, Audience Gobbing, Crowd Surfing, Falling Over, Pointing, Head Banging / Heavy Metal Hand Sign Chapter Four - Rock Costuming: Leather, Rips, Your Friend's Band T-Shirt, Proper Footwear Seriously, here's the proper description: TH3120 - Theatre: Theory and Practice Rock Performance / Performing Rock: "Keepin' It Real" in Rock Culture Instructor: Wade...

Looking for a place for your band to practice? Good news! The Whole Music Club is available for your band to come and practice on Sundays. We can't offer a PA, and you have to haul all of your own equipment, but if it's just the space you are looking for, we're it! Just write to whole@umn.edu to request a time on any Sunday that Coffman's open.

11/11/2005New Year's Eve with Fog and Traditional Methods

So, last year the Whole took the trip across campus to the Bell Auditorium on New Year's Eve. We ran sound for a couple of bands playing live soundtracks to silent movies. The Spaghetti Western String Company played for a movie called "Grass" (featuring captions such as "They climbed mountain peaks, forded rivers, trudged miles and miles, all in the desparate search for grass" /snicker) and Dosh played for a movie called "South" about Shackleton's voyage. It was really fun, and there were like twice as many people as the theater could hold. We must have done something right, because they asked us back! It's a similar situation and
