7/17/2007Vive La Blogotheque
La Blogotheque, a Paris-based film crew, has been shooting some of our favorite acts performing in a few interesting places. These "Take Away Shows" can happen anywhere, keeping the French on their toes. So the next time you are walking the streets of Paris, don't be surprised to see Architecture in Helsinki hanging out of an apartment window, Grizzly Bear crammed in bathtub, Arcade Fire filling up an elevator, and our very own Tapes 'n Tapes banging down the road.

(2006-10-19) Making Music featuring: Andrew Bird [View Show]

Missing media: 4369Making Music Alum Andrew Bird is everywhere these days. For your Friday pleasure, check out a veritable buffet of video... from his appearance at the Hollywood Bowl , the Conan O'Brien Show, and Dave Letterman. Schedule Two's got some excellent Bird from First Avenue too.
Here's some pics of the talented Mr. BirdMaking Music last fall, audio soon to follow.
7/10/2007Rahsaan Roland Kirk
There was a time, long long ago, that the Whole Music Club featured legendary, internationally-known jazz artists. People like Sun Ra, Sonny Rollins, and Dexter Gordon have all graced our stage at some point. Which is great and all, but when it comes to Rahsaan Roland Kirk (who played here in the 1970s), let's just say that he's in a league of his own. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Kirk, and this video will tell you why. The personnel on this is incredible, too: McCoy Tyner - piano, Stanley Clarke - bass, Lenny White - drums. It doesn't get any better.
7/6/2007Mountain of Everest
Last week, I went to the CD release show of our very own Making Music host, JG Everest. He and his sister Mary (who also was releasing her long-awaited disk "Little Things" that night) played selections from the two disks for over an hour on a Bryant Lake Bowl stage crowded with musicians and friends. I've been listening to both of those CDs all week, and I highly suggest visiting your local music store and picking them up.
It's hard not to fall at least a little in love with Mary after listening to her CD. Her voice is soft and a bit fragile, but intimate, like she's singing...
