Ellis with Coleman Lindberg

Our favorite singer/songwriter Ellis comes by to open up the Spring semester with a special all-ages free show at the Whole. Ellis has been super-busy touring and filming her upcoming DVD, and we were lucky enough to snag her for an evening. Coleman Lindberg opens!

So, we're pretty lucky to have Ellis coming here in about a week. She's bringing her new totally boss band with her, too. Usually we only get Ellis solo, so I'm really excited to see her with some backup.
I first met her when I worked over at the Saint Paul Student Center as a sound tech. She came in to do a noon show for the lunch crowd. I was really impressed with her music and personality. She strikes me as somebody that knows how to laugh. It's sort of contagious. I wonder about people that seem to enjoy life so much. There's so much to be depressed or down about that sometimes it seems like a total luxury to relax and enjoy life as it comes. It also seems like some of the most funny people are the ones with the most difficult pasts. Take the Dalai Lama for instance. He's always cracking up. I'll bet that laughing is a pretty powerful treatment for whatever ails you. Ellis doesn't really write a bunch of joke songs, but she gets so much joy out of singing them. That's one of the cool things about music. Sometimes it can make you laugh and cry at the same time.
I also wanted to put in a good word for Coleman Lindberg. He's such an honest soul. He's a great performer, too. He really relates to his audience and sings right from his heart. I'm looking forward to hearing him again after a short set last Fall.
So anyways, we're doing a lot of free shows this Spring. It's our way of giving back. Lots of them are all-ages shows, too. Hope you like 'em.

oh yeah!
Ellis is really really good. Even if you think this may or may not be your type of music, you should really check her out because you will dig it (all you indie music fans! also you folk fans! and the pop fans will dig it, too!). Her full band is awesome - some of the twin cities most talented musicians! What a treat - and all for FREE! Definately worth it!! :)
