Legendary minimalist composer: Phill Niblock
Sunday, April 15, 2007
The Whole Music Club is proud to present another installment of its ‘Noisy Spring’ concert schedule with an appearance by the legendary minimalist composer Phill Niblock. Phill Niblock makes thick, loud drones of music, filled with microtones of instrumental timbres which generate many other tones in the performance space. The music is played at very high volumes in order to increase the audibility of the microtones. Simultaneously, he presents films / videos which portray the intricate, brutal, exacting, intimate, and delicate movements of people at their toils and crafts.
Phill Niblock’s April 15th appearance will feature a number of pieces from his “Movement of People Working” series of films shot by himself around the world in Peru, Mexico, Hong Kong, Hungary, China, and Japan. Niblock is set to perform a number of pieces based on the recorded samples of musicians Jim O’Rourke, Arne Deforce, Martin Zrost, and Seth Josel.
A short interview and Q+A session with Mr. Niblock will immediately follow the performance.
